What type of mics are best to record trombones. We love the sound of ribbon mics, but they're so sensitive, they pick up even the slightest hand movement. Any suggestions?

I personally would use either an AKG C414 or sennheiser 421.

I would use any dynamic--- maybe a little off axis. Often times you get a better blend if you record all the horns together on one mic from a small distance. You'll need a pretty dry room--- and you have to tell the guys not to move around too much or your blend will change. The further away they are the less critical the movement thing is...
